A Track Needs More Than Tread

We look beyond the tread to see how drive wheels, support rollers, idlers and tension adjustment carry and guide the rubber track.

A deep tread is easy to see in a product photograph. To understand a tracked brush cutter undercarriage, look inside the track loop as well. We build the track, drive wheel, support rollers and adjustable idler arrangement to work together.

The track meets the ground. The components within its loop carry, guide and drive it. A full side view shows how those parts are arranged and how the track follows its path around the machine.

Look inside the track loop

Our undercarriage combines load-bearing rollers, upper support rollers, drive wheels and an adjustable tensioning arrangement. We use high-tooth tracks and double-sealed rollers as part of that assembly.

The drive wheel transfers the travel drive to the track. The rollers support and guide the track along its path. The idler and tension adjustment help maintain that path as the track runs around the wheels. Their position and condition matter alongside the tread.

Behind the drive wheel, our electric travel drive uses planetary reduction. The motor, reducer and drive wheel form the power path to the running gear. Seeing them together makes the connection between electrical drive and track movement clear.

Follow the parts around the track

A complete side view is more useful than a close-up of the tread alone. Start at the drive wheel, then follow the track around the idler and back along the rollers. This shows the parts that deliver movement, guide the loop and carry the machine.

  • Drive wheel: transfers the travel drive into the track.
  • Idler and tension adjustment: guide the track at the end of its loop and provide its adjustment.
  • Lower rollers: support the machine along the ground-contacting run.
  • Upper support rollers: support the returning track above the lower run.

For a parts enquiry, send that full side view first, followed by a close photograph of the component involved. A roller, idler and drive wheel do different jobs; identifying the part within the assembly helps us discuss the correct replacement.

Keep the track correctly adjusted

The adjustable tensioning arrangement gives the track loop a service adjustment. During inspection, check how the track sits around the rollers and wheels. Follow the supplied machine’s procedure for tension and alignment.

If the track has moved from its normal position, stop and inspect the assembly before making an adjustment. Tightening it arbitrarily can obscure the problem you need to identify. Keep the track’s position and the condition of its supporting parts in view.

Ground conditions and material caught in the running gear also need attention during a job. Assess the work area before entering it, and inspect the undercarriage after working through mud and cut vegetation.

Clear the running gear after work

Our maintenance guidance calls for removing mud from the tracks, support rollers, drive discs and idlers. Work through those areas so that the inner running gear is visible as well as the outer tread.

Before cleaning or inspection, shut the machine down, follow its power-isolation procedure and wait for the cutting assembly to stop. Keep hands out of the track loop while movement is possible. Use the supplied service instructions when access or adjustment is required.

Once the accumulated material is clear, you can see the rollers, track position and surrounding fasteners. This is the condition you need for a useful inspection before the machine starts its next job.

Show the complete assembly

For a purchase discussion, a full side photograph shows the track and wheel layout. For service support, add a close view of the idler, drive wheel or roller involved. Include the machine model so we can identify the running gear fitted to it.
